“Just think how many people he could attract to Jesus
given that kind of fame and his talents!” my younger
friend remarked, referring to a well-known hero of the
Chinese democracy movement.
Why does God not simply use the celebrities, those who
are good looking, smart and influential to bring people
to Him?
Wouldn’t that be the most effective and efficient way of
spreading the Gospel?
Somehow, God seems determined to have His salvation plan
accomplished the “wrong” way:
God chose what is low and despised in the world, even
things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,
so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.
He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God
made our wisdom, our righteousness and sanctification and
redemption. 1 Corinthians 1:29-30 (RSV)
God has selected you and me to be “the only show” in town.
We are the celebrities of God to live out Jesus Christ.
History has shown repeatedly that God uses the unknown and
the least likely Christians to influence the powerful
people.
Does this make me a bit less nervous about sharing the
Gospel with my boss and all those people whom I consider
myself inferior to?
It’s not me but Jesus whom I am promoting!
Just make sure the focus and attention is on Him!
