When my son was 7 years old, he played T-ball. It's like baseball but there is
no pitcher.
You simply place the ball on a stick and whack away at it and run and try to
score while the opposing team tries to get you out.
When my son got up to bat for the first time there were 2 kids on base and I,
the proud and excited Dad, was sitting in the grandstands.
After swinging and missing the ball twice, my son then hit it hard down the 3rd
base line and it went through the legs of 4 kids to the outfield. Two runs
scored and he ended up at third base. The next boy made an out and it was time
to go back on the field.
Instead my son ran up into the grandstands toward me! And with eyes opened so
wide with excitement, he ran up to me and shouted, "Dad! Dad! How did I do?
How did I do?"
I replied, "Son, that was the greatest homerun I ever saw!"
With a smile he grabbed his glove and ran on to the field. That's all he
needed....the approval of Dad.
It was then I thought heavenward to the day when my life shall be given back to
the God who gave it to me. In my thoughts I saw myself coming to the Father
with my life and my service to Him and caught myself saying, "Oh Dad, Father,
how did I do.....how did I do?"
It is greatest desire of my life that I shall please the Father and on that day
hear Him say..."well done, good and faithful servant."
