Goals and Resolutions

Jeremiah 31:3-4a*

"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving- kindness. I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt . . ."

In my home church, it was the custom of the pastor to welcome new members with a special verse of Scripture, one that he chose especially for them. When I joined this church, a few years back, he gave me this verse from Jeremiah, and I cried. I cried because God, through my pastor, told me that He loved me, always has and always will. In this verse, the Lord said that He was committed to remaking me in His image, and that image is love.

And I believed it.

When we set goals we are, in essence, rebuilding ourselves. In a sense, our walls have fallen down and we need to re-fortify ourselves. We need to shore up our reserves to continue. I know that God wants us to rebuild, but He also wants to be the director of our reconstruction.

Are you allowing Him to work through you? Or are you working by yourself to build up your own structure. Let me encourage you to put down the hammer and nails. Pick up, instead, the rest that God has to offer in the form of His everlasting love.

Keep the faith......and keep it strong! God cares. He knows. Sometimes He says "No" but too often He'd say "Yes" if we'd only believe and ask.
