He created the earth before the end of day one, But knew there was much more work to be done. He divided the time between darkness and light; Called the light time "day" and the darkness "night." He then separated the water from the land, And formed the earth as He had planned. Grasses and trees were next in line; Took only one look to know they were fine. Sun, moon and stars to light the sky; All this was done before three days had gone by. Then came the birds and the fish in the sea; A multitude of creatures came to be. He placed the animals, one by one, And must have been weary when all this was done. In His image, He created man; Next, came woman...all part of the plan. His days were much longer than any of ours; Without overtime pay for over eight hours. On the seventh day, He decided to rest, And said to Himself, "I've done my best." He put it all together, now it's up to man, To take care of our home the best we can. Whenever needed, He will be here to give aid; And, what's more, He won't asked to be paid. Just be decent, honest, and willing to serve, And we'll receive the blessings we justly deserve. Vance July, 1998
