In the stillness of the evening
When I hear the whippoorwill
And I look across the river
At the cross upon the hill
It reminds me of our Saviour
That gave His life for me
And how He shed His blood
To set us free
He really must have loved us
To do the things He has done
And so did our Heavenly Father
For He gave His only Son.
Oh how little it would take
To show him that we care
And oh how nice it is
To talk to Him in prayer.
For He hears our every whisper
And He hears our every cry
That's why the cross reminds me
That on it He did die.
Let us not forget Him
But live for Him each day,
And He will not forsake us
If we walk the narrow way.
Just tell him that you love Him
And you try to do your part.
Tell Him that you love Him
And hold Him close within your heart.
