"Can you live without Jesus?"
One of them asked the question and the room instantly fell
silent. In our Bible study, I've always encouraged
openness and honesty; now they were putting me to the test.
What should my answer be?
"Jesus is my Savior and my refuge in times of trouble."
Or,
"He is the Master of my life, whenever I let Him."
Or,
"Jesus has been very good to me and I am very thankful."
Or even,
"I often pray for His guidance and help, especially when I
do not know what to do."
Jesus asked His students the same question, "Can you live
without me?"
Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know
that you are the Holy One of God." John 6:68-69 (NIV)
Unlike Peter, I always have my own resources and backup
plan. To be perfectly honest, I probably could live quite
all right without Jesus.
By now, they were staring at me.
"I can’t say I cannot live without Jesus." The confession
came out far less painfully than I expected. And they were
kind and let me resume our study.
Do I need Jesus only for His blessings? Or is it because
He is God, the Master of my life and apart from Him, my
life will be meaningless?
Can you live without Jesus?
