The Bell Ringer

The town bell ringer was about to retire. After 40 years of ringing the town bell 12 times each noon, he had a perfect record of never messing up.

Then came the very last time for him to ring in the noon hour. He walked the steps up to the tower. At the precise time, he began ringing the bell. After 6 rings, the clapper inside the bell broke and fell out.

He was determined to keep his perfect record on his last day at work, so he quickly climbed up inside the bell and used his own head as a clapper.

Each time he rang the bell, he almost fell down. But he got to the point where he had just one more to go. He rang the final time, staggered and fell out the window of the tower.

Fortunately, he landed on a pile of garbage bags on the street below. But he was knocked out.

As the crowd gathered, one man said to the other: "Who is he?"

The other said: "I don't know but his face sure does ring a bell!". .
